Comments on Funding of Loyalist Tranformation Initiative
”I welcome the British Government's intention (announced today) to fund a conflict transformation initiative in loyalist areas.
The Taoiseach has often spoken of the need to ensure the peace process leaves no-one behind.
There are many within loyalism who want to break from the past. It is right that those who are genuinely engaged in efforts to move their organisations away from paramilitary activity and criminality should be supported in that work.
This is clearly in the long-term interest of a peaceful and stable future for all the people of Northern Ireland.
I hope that the initiative announced today will be a further step along the road to definitive transformation.”
