Minister Dermot Ahern condemns sectarian attack in Ballymena

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Dermot Ahern T.D., has condemned the sectarian assault in Ballymena which has left a teenager in a critical condition in hospital.

The Minister condemned those responsible for the attack on Michael McIlveen, a 15 year old Catholic. “This shocking attack, which has left a young man fighting for his life, is a reminder that sectarian hatred and violence are still real problems in parts of Northern Ireland.“

“As we face into the summer months, it is imperative that all those in positions of influence and leadership work to combat all manifestations of sectarian hatred in their communities. They must work to ensure that there are no further tragic incidents of this kind.”

“Our thoughts are with Michael's family and friends at this very difficult time.”
