Ballymurphy: Minister Ahern appeals for calm and an end to the violence

Speaking today, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Dermot Ahern T.D., appealed for calm and an end to the violence which has taken place in Ballymurphy since the killing of Gerard Devlin last month.

He condemned these violent incidents, including the shooting of a young man today and the arson attack earlier this week on a house in which a number of women and children were residing.

Minister Ahern said:
"These attacks are completely wrong and are putting people's lives at risk; they should cease immediately”.  He called on all concerned to exercise the maximum restraint.
