Minister Ahern welcomes appointments to the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dermot Ahern T.D., today welcomed the appointment of Mr. Bob Collins, former Director-General of RTÉ, as the new Chief Commissioner of the Equality Commission for Northern Ireland and the appointment of four new Commissioners.   

On hearing of the appointments, Minister Ahern said:

“As Director-General of RTÉ, Bob Collins did an outstanding job in leading the organisation through a period of change. 

The Equality Commission is a key institution of the Good Friday Agreement.  The appointment of Bob Collins as Chief Commissioner will ensure that its work to protect and promote equality is consolidated and advanced.

The outgoing Chief Commissioner and Commissioners are to be commended for their valuable contribution since the establishment of the Commission. 

I wish those appointed today every success in their future work.”
