New Ambassadors present Credentials
Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of Spain and the Republic of Latvia presented their Letters of Credence to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.
His Excellency, Dr. José de Carvajal, Ambassador of Spain to Ireland, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Soledad Cebrian and by Mr. José-Andrés Gallegos, Counsellor at the Embassy of Spain.
His Excellency, Mr. Indulis Ābelis, Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Ireland, was accompanied by Ms. Ginta Dailīdenaite, First Secretary at the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia.
The following also attended the ceremony: Mr. Tony Killeen, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment ; Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary General to the President; Mr. Bobby McDonagh, Assistant Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Joe Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol and Mr. Gerry Kelly, Assistant Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassadors were escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin under the command of Second Lieutenant Melissa Hogan.
The Guard of Honour at Áras an Uachtaráin was provided by the 28th Infantry Battalion, Lifford Military Post, Donegal under the command of Second Lieutenant Gary Holohan.
The Army No. 1 Band was conducted by Commandant Mark Armstrong.
