Minister Ahern condemns attacks and kidnappings in Iraq
30/09/2004
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dermot Ahern T.D., has condemned the wave of violence which took place in Iraq today.
“I am appalled at the horrific attacks which have occurred in Iraq today. First reports indicate that over 40 people have been killed and over 120 injured, many seriously. It is particularly distressing that 34 of the dead are said to have been children, and the great majority of the casualties were innocent Iraqi civilians caught in the blast. The perpetrators of such attacks are apparently indifferent to the suffering they inflict on the Iraqi people.
It is also reported that ten more innocent civilians were kidnapped in Iraq yesterday. I call upon all those holding hostages in Iraq to release them immediately and unconditionally.”
