Minister Cowen welcomes the release of hostages in Iraq
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., has welcomed the release in Iraq of a number of Iraqi and foreign nationals who had been held hostage.
“I warmly welcome the release in Iraq of a number of those who were being held hostage there, and congratulate the Egyptian, Iraqi and Italian Governments on the safe return of their citizens. This is indeed a welcome and hopeful development.
Our thoughts are very much with those who remain in captivity. I again urge all those who continue to hold hostages in Iraq, including Mr. Ken Bigley, who is from an Irish family, to release them at once without conditions and allow them to return to their families. Mr. Bigley’s release would be very widely welcomed, including by the people of Ireland.”
