Minister of State Kitt attends Sixth Euro-Mediterranean Meeting of Foreign Ministers
Tom Kitt T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, is representing Ireland at the sixth Euro-Mediterranean meeting in Naples from 2-3 December. This meeting brings together Foreign Ministers of EU Member States together with Foreign Ministers of the Mediterranean basin.
Discussions will focus on regional issues, with a particular emphasis on developments in the Middle East Peace Process and Iraq. Recent developments in the Barcelona Process will also be reviewed. The Barcelona Process provides a forum for discussion between the EU and its Mediterranean Partners, including Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
In Naples, Ministers will discuss measures to enhance the visibility of the partnership including the establishment of a Foundation on the Dialogue of Cultures and Civilisations and the creation of a new Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly.
A further such meeting of Euro-Mediterranean Foreign Ministers will take place in Dublin on 5-6 May 2004, as part of Ireland's EU Presidency.
