Minister Cowen condemns this morning's bomb attacks in Istanbul

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., has condemned the bomb attacks on the British Consulate and its personnel and the HSBC Bank in Istanbul this morning, which have resulted in many deaths and injuries.

The Minister extended his sympathies to the Government and people of Turkey following this further terrorist attack in Istanbul. He conveyed his condolences to the families of those killed and his hopes for the recovery of the many people injured in the explosions. The Government has also conveyed its sympathy to the British Government.

The Minister added: “These further appalling acts of violence in Istanbul are the latest manifestation of the evil of international terrorism. Ireland has too much experience of the horrors associated with attacks such as those in Istanbul this morning. There can be no justification for the death and destruction visited on the people of Istanbul in recent days, or for the targeting of the British diplomatic mission in the city. Ireland and the international community will stand firm with the people of Turkey in the fight against international terrorism in all its forms”.
