New Ambassador of the United States of America presents Credentials
His Excellency, Mr. James C. Kenny, presented his Letter of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today. The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Kenny, his daughter Ms. Kathleen Kenny, his son Mr. Casey Kenny, Ms. Jane B. Fort, Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. John Fennerty, Economic Officer and Col. John O'Sullivan, Defence Attaché at the US Embassy.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Brian Cowen T.D. was present at the ceremony. Also present were Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary General to the President; Mr. Dermot Gallagher, Secretary General, Mr. Brian Nason, Chief of Protocol and Mr. Joseph Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador was escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Denise Mc Donagh.
The Guard of Honour at Áras an Uachtaráin was provided by the 4th Infantry Battalion, under the command of Lieutenant Tim Egar.
The Band of the Defence Forces School of Music was conducted by Colonel Brendan Power.
