Minister Cowen Condemns Bomb Attack in Gaza Strip
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen T.D., strongly condemned today's bomb attack on a US diplomatic convoy in the Gaza Strip. The Minister conveyed his condolences to the families of the four people killed in the blast and expressed his hopes for the speedy recovery of those injured.
The Minister said that an attack on personnel engaged in monitoring compliance with the international Roadmap was a direct assault on international involvement in the peace process and on the peace process itself. Such actions undermined any prospect for a comprehensive settlement of the conflict. He said that this attack can only have been undertaken by persons who have no interest whatsoever in the predicament of the Palestinian people. The Minister called on the Palestinian Authority to take all possible measures to ensure that those responsible for the attack were brought to justice.
