New Ambassadors present Credentials


Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Syrian Arab Republic presented their Letters of Credence to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.

His Royal Highness, Prince Turki Al Faisal bin Abdul Aziz, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Ireland, was accompanied by Mr Zeyadh Al Gheriayedh, First Secretary, Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia.

His Excellency, Mr. M. Mouafak Nassar, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic also presented his Credentials to the President.

The following also attended the ceremony: Mr. Dick Roche, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of the Taoiseach and at the Department of Foreign Affairs (with special responsibility for European Affairs) ; Mr. David Donoghue, Assistant Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Loughlin Quinn, Assistant Secretary General to the President; Mr. Brian Nason, Chief of Protocol and Mr. Gerry Kelly, Assistant Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassadors were escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin under the command of Lieutenant Sharkey.

The Guard of Honour at Áras an Uachtaráin was provided by the SSU, Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh, Co. Kildare, under the command of Lieutenant Lawlor.

The Band of the Defence Forces School of Music was conducted by Commandant M. Armstrong.
