Minister Cowen to visit the United States
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., will make a working visit to the United States from 8-11 July.
During his visit to Washington on 8-9 July, Minister Cowen will hold discussions on a wide range of issues including developments in relation to Northern Ireland and transatlantic relations. The Minister is scheduled to meet with Vice President Richard Cheney, with Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage, and with Ambassador Richard Haass, President Bush's special envoy on Northern Ireland. He will meet with prominent figures on Capitol Hill, including Senator Edward Kennedy, Senator Richard Lugar, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Representative Henry Hyde, Chairman of the House International Relations Committee. The Minister will also hold a meeting with a group of representatives, including the Chairman of the Friends of Ireland group, Mr. Jim Walsh, and members of the Ad Hoc Committee on Irish Affairs.
On 10 July, the Minister will travel to Boston where he will meet with local representatives including the Mayor of Boston, Thomas M. Menino, and representatives of the Irish community.
