Minister Cowen and Ambassador Moher introduce Canada- Ireland Working Holiday Programme
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen, T.D., and His Excellency Mark J Moher, Ambassador of Canada to Ireland, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of Ireland and Canada which will introduce a Working Holiday Programme between the two countries.
For the initial period of the Programme, it has been agreed that up to 100 people from each country will participate. This Working Holiday Programme will enable people between the ages of 18 and 35 from both countries to visit the other country for an extended period, primarily to holiday, but also to engage in employment as an incidental aspect of the holiday, in order to supplement their travel.
Similar programmes are already in existence with Australia and New Zealand, giving people the opportunity to appreciate the culture and way of life of another country and to promote mutual understanding between the two countries.
The Memorandum of Understanding will take effect from today and Irish people wishing to participate in the Programme should contact the Canadian High Commission in London for information and application details.
