Minister for Foreign Affairs announces new Ambassadorial Appointments
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., has announced that the Government recently agreed on the nomination of Irish Ambassadors to a number of countries. The appointments will be subject to the agreement of the countries concerned.
The nominations are as follows:
Mr. James Sharkey, at present Ambassador to Russia, to be Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Mr. Justin Harman, at present Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe, to be Ambassador to Russia (and also to Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrghyztan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan).
Mr. Antóin MacUnfraidh, at present Head of the European Union Monitor Mission in Sarajevo, to be Ambassador to Finland.
Mr. Joseph Lynch, at present Ambassador to Nigeria, to be Ambassador to Switzerland (and also to Algeria and Liechtenstein).
Mr. Liam Canniffe, at present Adviser to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs, to be Ambassador to Nigeria (and also to Ghana).
