The Department of Health and Children advises individuals not to undertake non-essential or elective travel to SARS - affected areas, including:

parts of China (i.e. Beijing, Guangdong, Hong Kong, Shanxi),

Singapore,

Hanoi (Vietnam),

Toronto

In addition, passengers intending to transit through the affected areas should consider using an alternative route where possible.

This advice follows the serious public health threat identified by authorities in areas affected by SARS and the stringent disease control measures now being employed as a result. The above list of affected areas is specified by the World Health Organisation and may change as this outbreak evolves. Therefore, intending travellers are requested to monitor the WHO (www.who.int) website for the latest information.
