North / South Implementation Bodies: Appointment of Board Members
Appointments to the Foyle, Carlingford and Irish Lights Commission, the North/South Language Body, InterTradeIreland and the Food Safety Promotion Board have been made. Details of the Boards are contained in the attached Annex.
The term of office for the members of each of the Boards will be three years.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen TD, on behalf of the Government, thanked the outgoing Board members for their valuable service over the past three years and wished the new Boards every success in their important work.
Note for Editors:
1. The Implementation Bodies were established under the Implementation Bodies Agreement of 8 March 1999 made between the British and Irish Governments. That Agreement was incorporated into domestic law in this jurisdiction by the British Irish Agreement Act, 1999.
2. Under the terms of the agreement of 19 November 2002 between the two Governments and the British Irish Agreement (Amendment) Act 2002, decisions of the NSMC on policies and actions relating to the North/South Bodies or their respective functions, shall be taken by the two Governments temporarily, pending restoration of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
