New Ambassadors present Credentials
Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of the Republic of Turkey and Australia presented their Letters of Credence to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.
His Excellency, Mr. Ahmet Berki Dibek, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Ceyda Dibek and Mrs. Nesrin Bayazit, Counsellor, Embassy of the Republic of Turkey. His Excellency Dr. John Joseph Herron, Ambassador of Australia was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Jan Herron and Mr. David Hammond, First Secretary, Australian Embassy.
The following also attended the ceremony: Mr. Brian Lenihan, T.D., Minister of State with responsibility for Children at the Departments of Health and Children; Justice, Equality and Law Reform; and Education and Science; Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary General to the President; Mr. John Neary, Assistant Secretary, Department of Foreign Affairs; Mr. Brian Nason, Chief of Protocol and Mr. Joseph Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs
The Ambassadors were escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin under the command of Lieutenant James Sharkey.
The Guard of Honour at Áras an Uachtaráin was provided by 12th Infantry Battalion, Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick, under the command of Lieutenant P. Hickey.
The Band of the Defence Forces School of Music was conducted by Colonel J.B. Power.
