Minister Cowen condemns Jenin shooting

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen T.D., has condemned the shooting of an Irish peace activist, Caoimhe Butterly, by Israeli forces in the Jenin Refugee Camp earlier today. The Minister also condemned the killing of Mr. Ian Hooke, an official of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, and the three Palestinian refugees who died during the same operation. He expressed his sincere condolences to their families.
The Ambassador of Ireland in Israel has protested strongly to the Israeli Foreign Ministry at the treatment of Ms. Butterly. The Embassy have also been in contact with Ms. Butterly and have offered assistance with medical or transport needs.
