Minister Cowen condemns suicide attack in Jerusalem
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., condemned this morning's suicide attack on a bus in Jerusalem. The Minister offered his sympathy to the families of those killed in the outrage and expressed his wishes for recovery to the injured.
"Once again, less than two weeks after the atrocity at Megido, an appalling attack has taken place in which more than 18 people have been killed and some forty injured. All the victims of this brutal outrage were innocent civilians. Nothing - no cause, no sense of injustice - can in any way excuse such inhumanity. Those behind these attacks know this full well. Their ultimate purpose is to destroy any prospect for a peaceful solution to the Middle East conflict. They must not be allowed to succeed. Every one of these atrocities demonstrates the futility of the use of force. It has nothing to offer. A political solution is the only way out. Preparations are continuing for an International Conference which will, we hope, map out the way towards this political solution. Ireland strongly supports the holding of this Conference which should take place as soon as possible in the course of this summer and which must be approached in a constructive spirit by all sides."Top
