Minister pays tribute to Sister Sarah Clarke

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Brian Cowen TD said today,

“It was with sadness that I heard of the death of Sister Sarah. A vital presence at the heart of the Irish community in Britain for many, many years, she was unstinting in her Christian commitment to reaching out to, and standing up for, those who found themselves socially or economically marginalised. Sister Sarah was also, almost literally, a beacon of hope for those suffering miscarriages of justice. She will be remembered for her unremitting work on behalf of Irish prisoners in Britain and, in particular, the crucial role she played in the long campaigns for the release of the Guildford Four and the Birmingham Six. Her passing marks a profound loss for all those whose lives she touched.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam.”
