Programme for Partnership for Peace

Following on from joining Partnership for Peace, a programme for Ireland's participation has recently been agreed.

This programme gives particular emphasis to cooperation in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations. This reflects the priorities set out in Ireland's Presentation Document, which was approved by Dáil Éireann in November 1999.

Note for Editors

1. Ireland's first Individual Partnership Programme for Partnership for Peace (PfP) has recently been agreed within the Partnership for Peace framework.

2. Each State participating in Partnership for Peace develops an Individual Partnership Programme tailored to that State's interests and priorities on the basis of its PfP Presentation Document. Ireland's Presentation Document, which was approved by Dáil Éireann in November 1999, sets out Ireland's approach to PfP, giving particular priority to cooperation in peacekeeping and humanitarian operations.

3. Ireland's first Individual Partnership Programme seeks to give practical content to the overall priorities identified in its Presentation Document. The Individual Partnership Programme has been laid before the Houses of the Oireachtas. The text is available on this Department's website www.irlgov.ie/iveagh under the heading "Policies" and will be added to the websites of the Department of Defence and the Defence Forces.
