Ireland and the Council of Europe: From Isolation Towards Integration

To mark Ireland's Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Cowen T.D., will launch a history of Ireland's involvement in the Council at the O'Reilly Hall, U.C.D. at 1:15 pm on Monday 15 May 2000.

"Ireland and the Council of Europe: From Isolation Towards Integration" by Dr. Michael Kennedy and Professor Eunan O'Halpin is based on newly released material from the archives of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Council of Europe and traces Ireland's role in the work and mission of the Council, especially in the field of human rights, since the foundation of the organisation in 1949 until 1961.

The launch will be attended by 200 parliamentarians from across Europe attending the Spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Dublin.Top
