‘Ireland Aid in Africa' Poster Competition
Over recent weeks a new development resource ‘Ireland Aid in Africa' was distributed to all primary schools around the country, along with details of a Poster Competition. In the Poster Competition, children are invited to design a poster on the theme ‘People and other lands', exploring links between Ireland and developing countries. There will be prizes for both pupils and schools, and the opportunity to nominate schools in developing countries to receive prize money. There are three prize categories: under nine years; nine years and over; and special education category. Teachers are encouraged to maximise their pupils learning opportunity about the developing world through this poster competition. The closing date for the return of entries has been extended to Friday 14th April 2000. Entry forms have been sent to all primary schools but can also be requested by contacting the Ireland Aid Information Section Tel. 01-478 0822, Fax. 01-478 0952 or NCDE at Tel. 01 - 662 0866, Fax. 01 - 662 0808.
The ‘Ireland Aid in Africa' primary school resource is suitable for use in the revised Primary School curriculum and includes information for teachers about overseas development in Africa, with suggested activities and worksheets for use in the classroom. It was developed by the Department of Foreign Affairs in conjunction with NCDE (National Committee for Development Education) and is available in both Irish and English.Top
