Ambassadors present Credentials
His Excellency Mr. Nicholas Emiliou presented his Letter of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cyprus to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.
The Minister of State at the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources, Mr. Hugh Byrne T.D., was present at the ceremony.
The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Pola Emiliou and by Mr. Nicos P. Nicolaou, Secretary of Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus.
Also present were Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary to the President; Mr. Pádraic MacKernan, Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Clare O'Flaherty, Deputy Chief of Protocol and Mr. Rory O'Leary, Protocol Officer, Department of Foreign Affairs.
The Ambassador was escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the Second Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Michael Conneely. A Guard of Honour was provided at Áras an Uachtaráin by the First Air Defence Regiment, Plunkett Barracks, Defence Forces Training Centre under the command of Lieutenant Raymond Kane.
The Army Number One Band was conducted by Commandant Joseph Ryan.
