MINISTER O'DONNELL WELCOMES FURTHER KOSOVO REFUGEES

Ms Liz O'Donnell, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, will be at Dublin airport later this evening to welcome a further group of around 150 refugees from Macedonia.

These, together with the 295 refugees who arrived in Ireland last week, will bring the numbers of refugees to almost half of the total of 1,000 which the Government is committed to receiving.

The refugees will join those accommodated last week at the Army Barracks in Kildare Town.

"I would like to warmly acknowledge the immense public support which has been shown to the refugees around the country. This has clearly had an extremely positive effect on their and is helping them settle into their new environment. We must continue to do all we can to make the refugees feel welcome and secure after the terrible hardships they have endured."

The Minister confirmed that further airlifts are scheduled on a regular basis over the coming number of weeks and that further announcements will be made as arrangements are finalised.
