Visit to Ireland by Sir William Deane, Governor-General of Australia, and Lady Deane 29 April - 2 May 1999


The Governor-General of Australia, Sir William Deane, and Lady Deane will visit Ireland from 29 April to 2 May 1999. In the course of the visit, Sir William and Lady Deane will meet with President McAleese and an Taoiseach, as well as Government Ministers and members of the Opposition. They will visit the International Fund for Ireland project in Dundalk and the UCD Australian Studies Centre. Sir William will be conferred with an Honorary Degree in Trinity College Dublin and will host a reception in the National Gallery of Ireland. Sir William and Lady Deane will also visit Lorrha, Co. Tipperary to explore their family roots.

This note outlines media opportunities during the visit of the Governor General. In each case, the indicated time is for the event itself and media representatives should ensure that they are in place some time in advance. There will be no central accreditation process and media representatives are encouraged to contact each venue in advance as indicated at the end of this release. Transport between venues will not be provided. Please note also that times may be subject to change:
