New Australian Ambassador presents Credentials


His Excellency Mr. Robert George Halverson presented his Letter of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Australia to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.

The Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms Liz O'Donnell, T.D., was present at the ceremony.

The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Halverson and by Mr.Tom Sinkovits, First Secretary, and Mr. Peter Hurditch, First Secretary, Australian Embassy.

Also present were Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary to the President; Mr. Pádraic MacKernan, Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs,; Mr. Brian Nason, Chief of Protocol, and Mr. Joseph Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassador was escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the Second Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Liam Toland. A Guard of Honour was provided by the Fifth Infantry Battalion, McKee Barracks, Dublin under the command of Lieutenant Barry O'Riordan

The Army Number One Band was conducted by Commandant Joseph Ryan.
