Andrews shocked by murder of Irish Aid volunteer
22/01/1999
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Davis Andrews T.D., today telephoned Mr Paul Beggan, Chief Executive of the Agency for Personal Service Overseas (APSO), to express his regret at the murder late on Thursday of an APSO volunteer, Mr Ken Hickey, aged 75, in Lesotho. Minister Andrews asked Mr Beggan to convey his sympathies to Mr Hickey's family.
"Irish women and men have for generations given selflessly of themselves to assist the poorest of the poor all over the world. I myself recently met volunteers in Honduras and was very struck by their dedication and good humour in the face of very trying conditions. In these circumstances, I am particularly shocked at this murder," the Minister said.Top
