US Ambassador presents Credentials to President


His Excellency Mr. Michael J. Sullivan presented his Letter of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the President at Áras an Uachtaráin today.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Andrews T.D. was present at the ceremony.

The Ambassador was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Jane Metzler Sullivan, Mr. Earle S. Scarlett, Deputy Chief of Mission, Ms Barbara A. Scarlett, First Secretary, and Colonel Gerald Dwight Saltness, Defence and Army Attaché at the Embassy of the United States of America.

Also present were Mr. Brian McCarthy, Secretary to the President; Mr. Pádraic MacKernan, Secretary General, Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Brian Nason, Chief of Protocol and Mr. Joseph Brennan, Deputy Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Ambassador was escorted to and from Áras an Uachtaráin by an Escort of Honour consisting of a motorcycle detachment drawn from the Second Cavalry Squadron, Cathal Brugha Barracks, Dublin, under the command of Lieutenant Liam Toland. A Guard of Honour was provided by the Twenty Seventh Infantry Battalion, Aiken Barracks, Dundalk under the command of Lieutenant Joanne Mooney.

The Band of the Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, was conducted by Captain Mark Armstrong.
