Minister Andrews welcomes decision on Danny McNamee case

"I welcome the fact that Danny McNamee's appeal has been allowed and that the verdict against him has been set aside" said Minister Andrews this morning.
The Minister said that he had taken a close interest in Danny's case for many years and, along with others, had concerns about the safety of his conviction and the conditions under which he was previously held in prison. "I met with Danny McNamee in April 1997 and have maintained contact with those campaigining on his behalf. Yet again we have cause to be grateful to Gareth Pierce for her tireless work in a case of humanitarian concern" said the Minister.
