Andrews welcomes Whiterock Closure
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr David Andrews T.D.,welcomed today's announcement by the Chief Constable that the Whiterock Army base in West Belfast is to be closed and demolished.
In a statement Mr Andrews said:
"This is an important Development in the process of normalising the situation in Belfast and elsewhere in Northern Ireland, in line with the aims and objectives of the Good Friday Agreement.
"I hope that this announcement will encourage all parties to redouble their efforts to overcome the present difficulties and to proceed with the full implementation of the Agreement in accordance with what has been agreed and endorsed so overwhelmingly by the people North and South."
"In this regard, I particularly welcome today's announcement by the First Minister and Deputy First Minister of intensive consultations and discussions designed to move the implementation process forward as quickly as possible."
