Minister Andrews Welcomes Israeli-Palestinian Agreement
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Andrews, T.D., warmly welcomes the reports that agreement has been reached by Israeli and Palestinian negotiators at the Wye Plantation in Maryland.
Commending the major efforts made by all concerned in order to move the Peace Process ahead, he said:
"I pay tribute to both parties for their achievement in overcoming the obstacles in the way of agreement. I also believe that much of the credit is due to the United States and in particular to President Bill Clinton. Without his personal intervention, we would not have had an agreement.
It is most important that both sides seize the opportunity provided by this agreement to press on and reach accord on the outstanding issues as soon as possible so that the entire Middle East region may at last enjoy the peace its peoples crave for.
Ireland together with its partners in the European Union will continue to support both sides in their endeavours in this respect"
