ANDREWS TO URGE "YES" VOTE ON AMSTERDAM TREATY AND GOOD FRIDAY AGREEMENT
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Andrews, T.D., will deliver the key-note address address at the Irish Congress of Trade Unions' special conference on the Amsterdam Treaty in Dublin Castle's Bedford Hall Suite at 9.30 am on Friday 15 May, 1998. The Minister will in his address urge a yes vote in the Amsterdam Treat Referendum, emphasising that the Treaty is good for Ireland and good for Europe. The Minister is expected to highlight the social policy and human rights aspects of the Treaty and to dispel some of the myths that are propagated about it. The Minister will also address the Northern Ireland referendum.
At 11.30 am, Minister Andrews will address the British-Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body, which is holding an Extraordinary Plenary Conference, in the Caisleán Conference Centre in Dublin Castle. This 16th Plenary Conference of the British-Irish Inter-Parliamentary Body has been called to discuss the Good Friday Agreement.
Members of the media are invited to cover both events.
