Minister Andrews meets family of Robert Hamill
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. David Andrews T.D., met today (Thursday, 30 April 1998) with representatives of the family of Robert Hamill who died in May 1997 as a result of a brutal sectarian attack in Portadown.
The Minister acknowledged the tragic loss of the Hamill family and friends, and the deep concern within the nationalist community generally about the circumstances of Robert's death.
He confirmed that the Government's concerns about the case had been repeatedly raised with the British authorities and that he had also raised the case personally with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
The Minister assured the family that he would continue to pursue the case vigorously in the period ahead.
