Andrews welcomes Unionist Party decision to back Agreement

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr David Andrews, T.D., has welcomed today's decision by the Ulster Unionist Council to endorse the agreement from the Multi-Party Talks. Mr Andrews described the outcome of today's UUP meeting as "a very positive development". He said that the Good Friday agreement, which was a well balanced document with something in it for everyone, had "passed another important test on the way to securing the approval it deserves. It is encouraging that the Ulster Unionist council had recognised its value as the basis for a better future".

Mr Andrews said he believed the agreement would "continue to gain wide acceptance as an effective blueprint for a society founded on partnership and trust. The Ultimate decision on the agreement we have negotiated rests with the people of Ireland, North and South. I hope that the electorate will give a resoundingly positive verdict on the agreement in the referendums next month".Top
