Minister O'Donnell condemns evil intent behind Portadown bomb

Liz O'Donnell, T.D., Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has made the following statement on the Portadown bomb.

"The bomb in Portadown is a further direct attack on the peace process. It posed a reckless threat to large numbers of people and it is no thanks to the perpetrators that serious injury and death was avoided. Those who carried it out share the same evil intent as those who bombed Moira and planted the bomb at Dromad.

The security forces on both sides of the border are co-operating fully to counter these enemies of peace and democracy. They have the support of the two Governments and the people of these islands in seeking to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Our political response to these acts must be to redouble the efforts of the two Governments and the parties to bring the talks process to an early and successful conclusion. We continue the work towards this end at tomorrow's talks session on Strand Two issues". Top
