MINISTER of STATE WELCOMES VISIT OF PRIME MINISTER BLAIR

Ms. Liz O'Donnell T.D., Minister of State for Overseas Development and Human Rights represented the Government today in Castle Buildings, in Belfast, during the visit of Prime Minister Blair to all party talks.

Speaking afterwards the Minister of State said she was delighted on behalf of the Government to see the Prime Minister in Castle Buildings. There was a very positive discussion, focussing in particular on maintaining the present momentum of the talks, and moving the process forwards as quickly and effectively as possible.

The Minister said " the visit confirmed beyond any doubt that the Prime Minister attaches the highest priority to the talks. This, together with the absolute commitment of the Taoiseach and the Government, gives all of us great encouragement as we get down to the serious negotiating stage. An ambitious, but realistic pace has been set for the talks. It's now up to all of us to play our full part and move the process forward towards the honourable, and comprehensive settlement desired by the overwhelming majority of people in this island".Top
