Statement by the Tánaiste on Injuries to Irish Troops in Lebanon
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Dick Spring T.D., this afternoon issued the following statement:
"I have learnt with concern of the incident this morning in Beit Yahoun, Lebanon, in which six Irish Defence Force personnel serving with the United Nations Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) have been injured.
I am thankful that there have been no fatalities, but this incident underlines the risks undertaken by Irish Defence Forces in the service of United Nations Peacekeeping.
My Department is closely monitoring the situation in liaison with the Defence Forces and I am awaiting further reports on the circumstances surrounding the incident."Top
