EARTHQUAKE IN IRAN
EARTHQUAKE IN IRAN
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Dick Spring, T.D., today expressed his sorrow on hearing the news of the devastating earthquake in the Khorasan province of Iran, in which around 2,500 people have died, and estimated 6,000 were injured and in excess of 10,000 families left homeless. This earthquake follows another devastating earthquake in Iran's Ardebil province last February.
The Tánaiste expressed his condolences to all those left bereaved, injured and homeless as a consequence of this latest earthquake and approved a grant of IR£75,000 for relief supplies for the survivors. This grant will be channelled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
A grant of IR£25,000 was made by the Department of Foreign Affairs in March 1997 for the relief of the survivors of the February earthquake.Top
