Minister Mitchell favours opening up of aviation routes

Commenting on a report he has received from British Midlands, Mr Gay Mitchell T.D., the Minister of State with Responsibility for European Affairs, said :

"The progressive extension within Europe of the ‘Open Skies' concept has been a highly positive aspect of EU integration.

It has brought advantages to European consumers by increasing competition, extending choice for consumers and diversifying the fares and destinations available to air travellers.

By stimulating a more competitive environment in the air transport sector, and thus making it possible for more Europeans to explore other EU countries, the ‘Open Skies' concept has a very practical contribution to make to European integration."Top
