Tánaiste welcomes the release of Patrick Kane

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dick Spring, today welcomed the decision by the Northern Ireland Court of Appeal in the case of Patrick Kane.

Commenting, the Tánaiste said:

"I have been aware of the concerns which have been expressed over a number of years about the safety of Mr. Kane's conviction and those of Seán Kelly and Michael Timmons. In this context, the three cases have been closely monitored by my Department over an extended period and I have pursued the matter through the framework of the Anglo-Irish Conference. I am therefore glad to learn of today's developments and I would assure the families of Mr. Kelly and Mr. Timmons that their cases will continue to receive close attention by my Department in the period ahead."Top
