Minister Ahern Sends the Government’s Congratulations to John Hume on his 70th Birthday
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dermot Ahern, T.D., today sent a message of congratulations on his own behalf and on behalf of the Government to Mr. John Hume on his 70th birthday.
In his message the Minister said: “this is a day of private celebration for you, Pat and your family but it is a day of public celebration too. Your life has become woven inextricably with the hopes and aspirations of all of us who share this island. The peace process you helped set in motion many years ago was built on a vision of enduring peace and prosperity. With every passing year, that vision becomes ever more a reality.
He continued: “we join you therefore today – not only to mark a birthday but also to acknowledge and celebrate a rare and valuable achievement. “
