Minister Ahern condemns bomb attack on Spanish tourists in Yemen
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Dermot Ahern, T.D., has strongly condemned the bomb attack in which 7 Spanish tourists and two Yemeni nationals were killed in Yemen yesterday.
The Minister stated:
“I was horrified by news of the bomb attack in Yemen yesterday, which took the lives of seven Spanish tourists and two Yemeni nationals and injured at least six others. This was an appalling act of terrorism, specifically directed at tourists visiting an historic site. There is no political cause which can possibly justify such terrible acts. On behalf of the Government and people of Ireland, I send our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
Last week, I expressed deep sympathy with the Spanish Foreign Minister following the deaths of six members of the Spanish UNIFIL contingent in a bomb attack in Southern Lebanon. I want to emphasise again our solidarity with Spain in the face of such acts of terrorism, and our continuing support for the positive role which Spain is playing in seeking a comprehensive settlement in the Middle East”.
