Statutory Powers of the Minister for Foreign Affairs
Introduction
In addition to certain common law powers, the Minister for Foreign Affairs has a large number of statutory powers and functions. Such statutory powers may in turn authorise the Minister to take a certain action by way of statutory instrument. For example, where new states have joined an international convention which has been made part of Irish law, it may be necessary to enact a statutory instrument to take account of that fact.
