Announcement of Humanitarian Assistance Package following Cyclone Sidr in Bangladesh

Michael Kitt TD, Minister of State for Overseas Development, today announced that Irish Aid will make up to €500,000 available to assist those affected by the devastating cyclone in Bangladesh.
Cyclone Sidr has destroyed homes, crops and livestock, displacing tens of thousands of people. It is reported that over 500 people have lost their lives, and it is likely that this death toll will rise.
Minister Kitt said:
"Cyclone Sidr has caused widespread devastation in Bangladesh. Irish Aid funding will help meet the immediate needs of those worst affected, many of whom have lost their homes and livelihoods."
