UN report to show numbers of children starting primary school up
The Minister of State for Overseas Development, Michael Kitt TD, in launching a UNESCO Report, entitled the Education for All Global Monitoring Report, at the Irish Aid Volunteering and Information Centre on Dublin’s O’Connell Street, said:
“Support for education is a core component of the Irish Aid
Programme. Since 2000, Ireland has contributed approximately
€360 million to advancing education in our partner countries,
especially in Africa. The UNESCO report confirms that this
investment in education is paying dividends. The most
positive proof of this is that between 1999 and 2005 enrolments in
primary school increased by some 36% in many of Irish Aid’s partner
countries in sub-Saharan Africa.”
