Minster for Foreign Affairs Condemns Coleraine Attacks

Micheál Martin T.D., Minister for Foreign Affairs, today condemned the attacks in Coleraine at the weekend which resulted in the murder of Kevin McDaid and severe injury to Damien Fleming:

“I condemn these vicious sectarian attacks and extend my sincere condolences to the wife, family and friends of the late Mr. McDaid. I understand that Mrs. McDaid was also injured as she sought to assist her husband. I also extend sympathies to Mr. Fleming and his family and hope that he makes a full recovery from his injuries.

Sectarianism needs to be confronted by the wider community. It cannot be permitted to continue to blight the progress we have made.

I hope that the perpetrators of these attacks will be brought to justice swiftly and I urge anyone with any relevant information to share it immediately with the PSNI.”
