Minister for Foreign Affairs announces changes to the passport application procedures
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Micheál Martin, T.D., today announced that changes to passport application procedures for first time adult applicants and those reporting passports lost or stolen will be introduced with effect from 17 January 2011.
The changes will require that applicants in these categories submit additional documentary evidence to establish identity and entitlement to an Irish passport. The additional documents sought will include forms of photo-identification, proof of use of the name of the applicant and proof of residence at the applicant’s address.
The Minister commented that the measures were being introduced as a necessary aid to fight passport and identity fraud.
