Certificate of Irish Heritage
Applicants for a Certificate of Irish Heritage may wish to note that:
• the Certificate does not confer citizenship or any other
legal rights on the holder;
• they will be required to demonstrate an ancestral connection with Ireland; and
• the Certificate of Heritage is operated by FEXCO under license from the Department.

On 19 September 2011, the Tánaiste launched the Government’s new Certificate of Irish Heritage. The first Certificate was presented to the family of Joseph Gerard Hunter, a New York Fireman, who lost his life in the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre.
